LEGITIMA

LEGITIMA provides a multi-layered solution to prevent counterfeiting through the use of unique serialized tokens issued by IP holders and a chrome extension for anti-spoofing verification. Ourserialized token is generated by the IP holder for each individual unit produced by manufacturers. Thistoken contains key information tracking the lifecycle of the product, essentially providing behaviorsimilar to a “digital passport.” This also allows end-users to authenticate their product through the IPholder’s official website. Information included within this “digital passport” includes product status,authenticity, and manufacturer information, all of which is an extra step counterfeiters must now try toovercome. What comes alongside LEGITIMA’s serialized token distribution is a browser-verificationextension for consumers that allows the prevention of spoofing through means such as fake websites,dead domain claims, and more types of forgery. A key factor bolstering LEGITIMA’s solution is theproposed implementation of a functioning pipe between private and public sectors that allowstransparency between IP holders and the USPTO. Additionally, end-users can report counterfeit productsthrough an online form which is verified by a natural language processing (NLP) machine learningalgorithm, and then reported to the IP holder with a channel of communication with the USPTO.
