Team DSDS Wildfire Detection

Disaster Signal Drone System (DSDS)

Abstract

Wildfires continue to be an issue, with so many first responders and civilians losing their lives annually technology must adapt. The proposed solution uses an array of drones to create internet connections in areas that have lost connection or rural areas that never had a connection during wildfires. Establishing this connection is essential to disperse information to civilians for evacuation as well as for first responder communication.

In order to execute this project, our team organized ourselves to optimize efficiency and our abilities. Since we intend to build upon pre existing frameworks, our team plans to focus our commitments towards the software, engineering, and systems aspects of the project. Our team organization is split into 3 branches—impact, engineering, and support roles/communications—with a project manager/principal investigator overseeing the project. Our team has intensive experience, varying from anything from previous research to the NCAS program. In addition to our team, we have intensive connections from NASA AMES and the tech industry that we intend to contact for consultation and to act as our SMEs within the project’s development.
